Release: gk9 v3 c9
When you hit rock bottom, you need divine intervention to get you out. Or maybe just familial intervention. This chapter's the conclusion to the last one we left off with Fukutsu in a very very tight jam. Happy endings ahoy! At least i think so.

Relase: new gyakkyou nine chapter
Fukutsu gets in pretty deep trouble this time and it might actually do him in! Tune in for the next exciting installment of Gyakkyou Nine!
Link inserted here.
Also, another Shimamoto work has been getting a high profile these days, thanks to popular moe gag comedy LUCKY☆STAR. Anime Tenchou shows up from time to time and is nicely animated in a hot blooded way that makes for a nice contrast to the rest of the show. It's about the only parts of lucky☆star that i watch. maybe we ought to ride that wave instead......

back from winter break(!) with GK9 ch7
Finally got off our lazy asses to push out a new chapter of Gyakkyou Nine.
Voila.
About the teaser to the other project, Future Diary aka Mirai Nikki, we ran into an editor problem, more specifically, the lack of. Thus, we were beaten to the punch, as there's already been releases of that by another guy. What shall we do, what shall we do.... to be determined....

Release: Gyakkyou Nine ch 6
After a bit of break (thanks mainly to spending too much time playing MJ), we finally got back to push out another chapter of Gyakkyou Nine. The next chapter will probably be a ways off due to work, the real, paid kind (hint, hint).
get it here or here
That is not to say the next release is far off as we've got another monkey working on another series. It's new! And exciting! And I've never heard of it until Mr. Translator decided to do it! It's kinda like Gash Bell, but darker... like Death Note..? I just skimmed through the raws and haven't read it yet...
Doooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnn missaaaaaaat!

Release: GK9 v2 c5 + Scanlator's bloggo
Booting out chaapter 5. try this or that.
A comment on the slowing releases
The last few chapters hit snags because of script problems in the form of trying to figure out just what the hell the characters are trying to say. As much as I want to be able to boot out chapters at a brisk pace, I also want to make sure the chapters are readable and get rid of any parts that may leave the reader scratching their heads or ignore because it makes no sense. But that's difficult when the original text doesn't make much sense to begin with. So a bunch of time is spent on trying to interpret what's going on in the original text then coming up with something for that. Convincing ourselves that that's the right idea. Then re-writing that because the original idea was worded too clunky (jot it down first, refine it later).
Then i realized what audience we have (mainly the lack of a large one), and whether the inordinate amount of time spent on fixing these little things is worth the marginal increase in (perceived) appreciative reception. If only a few people read it, then it's only a few people that'll be alienated for our laziness and negligence. Do people really care that this form of entertainment, which is provided for free and its popularity is niche at best, adhere to a high standard of quality?
Given our resources though, i think it's time to err on the side quantity and not quality. I just found at least 2 other projects i want to work on but i want to focus on getting one done at a time rather than spreading attention all over the place.

Release: Gyakkyou Nine v1 c4
After much deliberation on translations, we're booting out chapter 4.
Being a translation group is tough. To put your name on something means to stand by it since it's open for everyone to critique and... you've got your name linked to it. There was a part in it that didn't make any sense at all and quite contradictory to what the story is trying to imply. Much time was spent on it. In the end, we just made some shit up.

Bonus: the plight of the Zenryoku Nine is not all that uncommon! as depicted in popular media:

Release Gyakkyou Nine V1 C3
That is that, this is this.
A concise phrase that implies that different situations call for different approaches. A phrase originally coined by Shimamoto to inspire our dear Fukutsu and pull him out of a guilty rut. A phrase that has caught in use and appears in surprising places!
A defining moment? Maybe....

New Series, New Release Gyakkyou Nine
Our new project is Gyakkyou Nine (may also be known as Adversity Nine, Nine in Adversity, or All-Out Nine), a baseball comic by, once again, Shimamoto Kazuhiko. It's baseball + hot blood. Mr. translator knows it best but he's too lazy to come up with a description. But at any rate, considering this, Moeyo Pen and some other project ideas we had kicking around, we might as well change our group name to Shimamoto Scantlations.
Pretty much unknown over on this side of the Pacific, apparently Shimamoto's the God of hot blood over in jdm-land, according to the Japanese wiki. And you would not believe how much stuff we found on this guy: other comics, worked on G Gundam, produced a mascot for anime shop, worked on hot blooded delivery game and Gyakkyou Nine was even turned into a live action movie, in english! (There's a pretty good description of what the comic/movie is about in there.) So prolific!
Anyhoo,

release, finally: 11, 12
moeyo pen (in hind sight, maybe should've stuck with that name instead) isa done. as a scanlation group, we don't have to deal with the extreme pressure of deadlines that a real mangaka has to. no beyond over-the-limit stuff, not even a mere over-the-limit stuff. Hey man, it's free, but donations are highly suggested.

In other news, we have a representative at Anime Evolution in Vancouver this very weekend. He will be dressed up as Edgeworth from Pheonix Wright, some suikoden guy, rumours of yoruichi and some other crap that i forget. I recommend going up to him and saying (or even randomly yelling) "AIR SUPREMACY" or "SCORPION LADY" and see if there's a reaction to get his attention. He'll know what it means.

release: Moeyo Pen 9 + 10
There's tons upon tons of manga series out there but relatively few anime series (but still a lot!). Getting a manga series picked to become an anime must be some sorta honour. But even then it's not guaranteed to be a smash. Lots of name dropping in this story.

Here's a somewhat related link to keep you occupied while this stuff downloads. It's the opening for some old anime.
Oh yeah, please keep the project suggestions coming. We want to figure out what's interesting out there.

Next Installment
Aside from the 144+ volumed epic journey that we probably wouldn't even start on, I just thought it would be great to take some request/suggestions. Is there a series you like to have it scanlated but no one else is doing it? Is there a series that we have touched on and you want more of? Is anyone actually reading this?
All suggestions will be conisdered seriously, but the "consideration time" may vary drastically depending on the nature of the subject.

Future project! aka please, give us money
The typical shounen comic follows a formula: an unusally gifted young boy (usually) embarks on quest to realize a dream (something borderline unachieveable). And along the way, he will encounter many obstacles, rivals, friends, training, tournaments, extended mangaka breaks, etc.
The dream of a staff member here, one Mr. Kuno, is to scanlate a 144+ volume series. However, he's not particularly gifted in this process called scanlation but perhaps he's latently gifted and we don't know it yet! To do we'll need your generous donations to buy a scanner and the books to do so. and i do emphasize generous.
So as we wind down Moeyo Pen (a few chapters to go!), we're looking at prospective projects that we could take on. And one of them is that monster series. That series is none other than beloved unibrow cop comic Kochikame. From Jump. We know how y'all love jump.
As the saying goes, we need money. lots and lots of money. So this is a wee bit shameless. This is the internet; it's how things are done. plzktnxbye
